Istanbul Day 4 - Tour of historic old city.

This morning we met our guide for the next 2 days. Ugur (pronounced as oor as in lure). A 24 year old Kurd. University graduate and licenced official tour guide. Ugur turned out to be knowledgeable, keen to answer any and all questions and with a great sense of humour.

Over the rest of the day Ugur led us around the old city and via the landscape and architecture of the major sites and buildings, introduced us to the complex history of this most remarkable city.

The major sites were visited, including the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapi Palace. All astonishing both architecturally as well as historically.

By the end of the afternoon we were saturated with information and exhausted. After sharing Turkish Coffee and discussing our itinerary for tomorrow's Food Tour, we said our goodbyes to our guide, and retired to the hotel to recuperate.

Pre-dinner drinks on the rooftop terrace of The Ambassador Hotel, overlooking the old city, with stunning views of the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, followed by a pleasant meal and a slow stroll back to our hotel.

Another great day.
